Uzbek Geotechnical Society is planning to hold the 5th Central Asian (CA) Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering in October, 5-7, 2022. The last CA conference was also held in Samarkand in 2012. The last conference was attended by representatives of more than 30 countries with more than 200 participants.

The conference is planned to be held in the following areas

Issues of geotechnical engineering
Problems of preservation of monuments of historical cities and related geotechnical issues
Soil mechanics
Contact tasks of a construction mechanic

The main purpose of holding such a conference in Uzbekistan is to consider and exchange experience of geotechnical problems associated with the erection and construction of high-rise buildings and transport structures in seismic conditions and in soft soils, geotechnical problems of historical cities, the problems of building tailings, industrial and domestic waste, water-saving technologies and alternative energy sources, etc. Along with this, we consider it important to consider issues in the field of soil mechanics and contact issues in structural mechanics under static and dynamic (seismic) loads.

President of the Geotechnical Society of Uzbekistan, prof. Askar Khasanov hope that your participation in our conference will provide an opportunity not only to discuss the scientific and practical issues of Geotechnics, but also to give you great pleasure in visiting worldfamous monuments, museums, theaters and religious centers (Muslim, Christian, Catholic, Jewish) temples of the ancient city of Samarkand.

We plan after the end of the conference on October 7-8, 2022 to organize 1-day tours to the historical cities of Uzbekistan Bukhara, Khiva, Shakhrisabz and the capital city of Tashkent. Guests of our city will witness a unique culture, an abundance of vegetables and fruits, an Asian bazaar and, most importantly, you will get acquainted with the unique Uzbek cuisine known throughout the world.
We will make every effort to organize the conference at a high level in a friendly atmosphere and maximum Asian comfort. Welcome to Samarkand.

ABOUT UZBEKISTAN

Uzbekistan today is one of the dynamically developing countries of Central Asia both in politics, economy and science. It is rich invaluable resources and minerals, and occupies a leading position in their export. The country has a unique nature, warm climate and magnificent geography.

SAMARKAND ALWAYS ATTRACTS TRAVELLERS AND SCIENTISTS

Welcome to Samarkand to the second largest city in Uzbekistan and the capital of History, Tourism and Science. Samarkand is well-known since the ancient period and appointed as the important city on the crossroad of the Great Silk Road. Samarkand is about 3000 year-old. The city was very attracted and all the rulers of different countries tried to take possession of it for its favorable location, greatness and beauty. Its name already contained the meaning of the city of success and wealth, both its old name in Turkic – Marakand and, and in Arabic – Samarkand. The impressive size of the city, buildings and structures made one admire the power of Samarkand, but only a part of them has survived to this day, and looking at them we can imagine how scientific thought was developed, since these buildings and structures were the greatest achievements of the developed architectural and construction sciences, technology and civilization of that time. In 2001, UNESCO added the city to its World Heritage List as Samarkand – Crossroads of Cultures.
